The government has launched a unified digital service counter designed to let citizens apply for passports, driving licenses, and citizenship certificates without visiting a physical office. Officials say the platform will initially cover the Kathmandu Valley before expanding to other provinces over the next year.

The system allows applicants to upload documents, pay fees online, and track application status in real time through SMS and email alerts. A helpdesk has also been set up to assist users unfamiliar with digital forms.

Officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs said the initiative is part of a broader push to reduce paperwork and long queues that have long frustrated citizens. Early pilot testing in three district offices reportedly cut average processing time by nearly forty percent.

Civil society groups have welcomed the move but urged the government to ensure the platform remains accessible to citizens in rural areas with limited internet access. Plans are underway to set up assisted digital kiosks in municipal offices to bridge this gap.

The portal is expected to fully roll out nationwide within the next fiscal year, officials confirmed.
